Hudson Valley - Beacon, NY - Beacon High School students provide their insights regarding Internet Smarts with a creative I-Movie December 10, 2009
Beacon, NY, December 10, 2009 – 10th and 11th graders at Beacon High School tackled the subjects of Cyberbullying, Social Networking and Keeping Personal Information Private, discussing the impact of properly utilizing digital media on a student’s life and what students can do to make a difference in scenarios when others are not. In attendance for the presentation were Principal Anthony DiMarco, Senator Stephen M. Saland, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fern Aefsky, and representatives from Cablevision's Power to Learn. The participating students showed a movie presentation they created which dealt with the topics in question. Afterwards they explained what they learned from the case studies. Senator Saland then congratulated the students and presented them with a giant Internet Smart certificate for their school, and they then signed a giant Internet Safety pledge. View Slide Show >> “For many years I have worked in the State Senate to protect children and their families and I applaud Cablevision’s Internet Smarts for equipping students to use the Internet safely and responsibly and I commend each of the students for taking part in today’s program,” said Senator Saland. “Navigating and using the Internet safely and knowing how to appropriately deal with issues such as cyberbullying are basic skills required of all students today,” noted Principal DiMarco. “As educators, it is important to help our students understand how to handle themselves in an online environment. I’d also like to thank Cablevision and Power to Learn for working with Beacon High School to help our students better understand today’s technology.”
